To me the GCSC is a nexus for faculty, graduate-, and undergraduate students to share research, and research efforts, and to learn about environmental processes shaping our climate and environmental resources. - Bill Johnson, Geology & Geophysics

Seminar Series

The GCSC Seminar Series features researchers from different disciplines who will discuss their research and approaches to questions related to complex environmental issues. This series brings in outstanding off-campus speakers and showcases experts at the U of U. For a deeper exploration, students can enroll in the 1-credit course, SUST 6800.

Research Symposium

Held every spring, the annual Environment and Sustainability Research Symposium celebrates interdisciplinary student research related to the environment and/or sustainability. Students from across campus synthesize and present their research in a poster session in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Like other GCSC events, the symposium helps to cultivate relationships across the U of U community, and can serve as a catalyst for new research ideas and collaborations.

Faculty Think Tanks

Think Tanks bring faculty members together in a relaxed environment to learn about environment and sustainability -related research being conducted at the University of Utah, and to foster conversations that can lead to new research and collaborative partnerships.[/bs_col]

Fall Retreat

2016 retreat group

Each fall, we hold a workshop and retreat to welcome new GCSC Fellows and other graduate students, postdocs, and their GCSC-affiliated faculty mentors to our interdisciplinary community. We aim to help integrate those who are new to the U. of U. into a larger campus network with related interests in environmental and sustainability-related research.

Special Events

The GCSC frequently partners with research groups and other campus entities to bring presentations, workshops, symposia, and other offerings to campus. These have included the CO2-Urban Synthesis and Analysis Workshop, the Wasatch Experience, Red Butte Creek Research Symposium, Re-valuing the Ocean Symposium, arts events, panels, and many more.
